Get alerts on time on Android

Android phones hold back apps in the background to save battery, so an alert can reach you minutes late. Allow Better Stack to run in the background and you'll always receive alerts on time. Some phone brands need an extra setting.

Allow Better Stack to run in the background

This one step is all most phones need.

  1. In the Better Stack app, open Settings and tap Always receive alerts on time.
  2. Tap Allow.

Don't see Always receive alerts on time in Settings? Better Stack already runs in the background, as long as Push notifications is on.

Using your phone's settings

Open your phone's Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Better Stack On-call β†’ Battery and select Unrestricted. On Pixel phones, tap App battery usage β†’ Allow background usage and select Unrestricted.

Samsung

Already allowed Better Stack to run in the background? Nothing more to do. Otherwise, Samsung puts apps you don't open for a while to sleep, and a sleeping app gets no alerts until you open it again.

  1. Open your phone's Settings β†’ Battery β†’ Background usage limits. Not there? Search your phone's Settings for Background usage limits.
  2. Open Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps, and remove Better Stack On-call from both.
  3. Turn off Put unused apps to sleep.

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO

  1. In the Better Stack app, open Settings and tap Get alerts reliably on Xiaomi.
  2. In the screen that opens, turn on Autostart for Better Stack On-call.
  3. Open your phone's Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Manage apps β†’ Better Stack On-call, tap Battery saver and select No restrictions.
  4. Open your recent apps, long-press Better Stack On-call and tap the lock icon, so clearing recent apps doesn't close it.

Don't see Get alerts reliably on Xiaomi?

Turn on Autostart in your phone's Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Manage apps β†’ Better Stack On-call. On HyperOS 2 and later, turn it on in Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Permissions β†’ Background autostart.

OnePlus, Oppo and realme

Seeing Get alerts reliably on OnePlus or Get alerts reliably on Oppo in the app's Settings? Tap it and turn on Auto launch for Better Stack On-call. If App info opens, it's under Battery usage as Allow auto launch.

Then, on every OnePlus, Oppo and realme phone:

  1. Long-press the Better Stack On-call icon, tap App info and open Battery usage.
  2. Turn on Allow background activity and Allow auto launch.
  3. In your phone's Settings, search for Sleep standby optimization and turn it off.

Vivo

  1. Open your phone's Settings β†’ Battery β†’ Background power consumption management and turn on Better Stack On-call.
  2. In your phone's Settings, search for Autostart and turn on Better Stack On-call.

Honor

  1. In your phone's Settings, search for App launch and open it.
  2. Turn off the switch next to Better Stack On-call.
  3. In the dialog that opens, keep Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background on, and tap OK.

Motorola

Open your phone's Settings β†’ Battery and turn off Improve battery while inactive.

Tecno and Infinix

  1. Open Phone Master β†’ Toolbox β†’ Auto-start management and turn on Better Stack On-call.
  2. In Phone Master, open Advanced settings and turn off Screen off push block.

Huawei

Huawei phones without Google Play services can't receive push notifications. Get alerted by phone call and SMS instead:

  1. Open Settings β†’ Alerts
  2. Under How do you want to get alerted?, tick Call and SMS for each severity and click Save changes.

Not using an escalation policy? Tick Call and SMS under How should we notify the primary responder? on each monitor.

Still late?

Alerts reach your phone only while it has signal or Wi-Fi. Still getting them late with a good connection? Let us know at hello@betterstack.com and we'll be happy to help.
