UptimeRobot: a monitor that added a page

UptimeRobot has watched endpoints since 2010, and its status page grew out of that. Because the same product both checks your service and renders the page, the page updates from real monitoring with no integration to configure, which is the thing Statuspage cannot do on its own. What you give up on the UptimeRobot side is polish and depth of communication: the page is functional rather than a brand showpiece, subscriber notifications go out by email only, and full-featured pages start on the $29 Team plan. The free tier is generous at 50 monitors, but since late 2024 it is restricted to personal, non-commercial use, so a business starts at a paid tier.

This is the widest gap, because only one of these tools monitors anything. The question is whether your status page should know on its own when you are down, or wait to be told.

Statuspage offers full CSS, HTML, and JavaScript customization on its Business plan, three page types, public, private, and audience-specific, and subscriber notifications across email, SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and webhooks, though SMS and webhooks sit behind the $99 Startup tier and component-level subscriptions behind the $399 Business tier. UptimeRobot's pages are cleaner than they used to be, with custom domains, translations, white-label branding, and up to 100 pages on the Team plan, but subscriber notifications are email only, which matters during an outage because a customer who wants an SMS or a partner who wants a webhook does not get one. Incident management and on-call

Neither tool pages a human on its own, and this is where both lean on a third product. The question is how much of the incident each one holds before the handoff.

UptimeRobot improved here with a January 2026 update that added a unified Incidents tab, cross-monitor visibility, comment collaboration, filtering, and full request and response detail per incident, which helps a team investigate false positives and recurring issues. What it does not include is native on-call scheduling, escalation policies, or phone and SMS paging through its own infrastructure, so reliable paging means integrating PagerDuty or Opsgenie at roughly $49 per user per month. Statuspage holds even less of the incident: it manages the customer-facing post and the subscriber notification, and everything about detection, routing, and paging lives in Jira Service Management or another tool it connects to. So both hand paging to PagerDuty, and UptimeRobot at least owns the detection and a working incident record on the way there.

AI and MCP

AI has reached both categories unevenly, and here the roles reverse from what their prices suggest. The cheaper tool has the AI hook; the pricier one has none.

UptimeRobot ships an MCP server, client-agnostic and authenticated by API token, that exposes monitor management, incident context, response-time analytics, and integration configuration to an AI assistant like Claude or Cursor. It does not investigate root causes, because it holds no logs or traces, but it does let your AI tools query and manage monitoring in plain language. For a regulated or enterprise buyer, this is where Statuspage's Atlassian backing counts most. What does each one clear on the procurement checklist?

Statuspage inherits Atlassian's broad compliance posture, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001, with SSO and SCIM through Atlassian Guard and RBAC on the Business plan, which reassures procurement and is part of what the price buys. UptimeRobot covers standard security for a monitoring tool and offers team and login seat controls, but it is a smaller vendor without Atlassian's certification breadth, so a buyer with strict HIPAA or ISO 27001 requirements should confirm its current attestations directly. For a team that mainly needs to know the moment something breaks, UptimeRobot is the easier buy, and the price is not close. Fifty monitors free, a hundred with a status page for $29, and an MCP server your AI tools can already query give you the watching and the telling in one cheap product, as long as you accept a plainer page, email-only subscribers, and a free tier now limited to non-commercial use.

Statuspage earns its higher price in a narrower case. If your customer-facing page has to look and behave exactly right as a brand surface, if you live in Jira and Jira Service Management, or if procurement requires HIPAA or ISO 27001, Statuspage gives you a more polished, more customizable page backed by Atlassian's ecosystem and compliance. What it never gives you is any idea whether you are actually down.

That catch outlives the pricing. UptimeRobot watches your service but communicates plainly, and Statuspage communicates beautifully but watches nothing, and neither pages an on-call engineer without PagerDuty bolted on.
