# SSL certificate checks

The SSL certificate checks allow you to monitor both the current validity of the SSL/TLS certificate and the expiration date of the certificate.

To change the settings monitor's SSL certificate checks, go to [Monitors](https://uptime.betterstack.com/team/0/monitors) → **Select a monitor** → **Configure** → **Advanced settings**:

- To check the security certificates of the monitored URL, set the **SSL/TLS verification** dropdown to ` On`.

The SSL/TLS verification is done together with the main check. The frequency is therefore the same as the monitor's check frequency settings.

- To change the certificate expiry monitoring, select your preferred monitoring timeframe.

Bear in mind that changing the settings for the SSL expiration will automatically update the SSL expiration settings for all monitors with this domain in your team.

The SSL expiration is checked every hour, so it can take up to an hour for the SSL expiration incident to auto-resolve.
