# iOS & Android phone call alerts

If you’d like to receive phone call alerts even if your phone is in Do Not Disturb or silent mode, you’re at the right place.

## Allowing phone call alerts in silent mode on iPhone

To get a phone call alert even if your iPhone is set to silent mode, you can use the Emergency Bypass feature and manually allow our [dedicated alerting phone numbers](https://betterstack.com/docs/uptime/frequently-asked-questions/).

- Open the **Contacts App**.
- Select Better Stack’s contact and **tap on the name to open their details** (If you don’t have a contact created for the Better Stack number, please create it).
- **Click** edit in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Scroll to **Ringtone** and **Text Tone** and click either of those two options to edit.
- **Enable the Emergency Bypass** at the top of the selection screen.
- Click **Done** in the upper right corner to save your changes.

## Allowing phone call alerts in silent mode on Android

To get a phone call alert to go through even if your Android is set to silent mode, you can use the Do Not Disturb exception feature and manually allow our [dedicated alerting phone numbers](https://betterstack.com/docs/uptime/frequently-asked-questions/):

- Open your device's **Settings** app.
- Tap **Sound → Do Not Disturb**. If you find "Do Not Disturb preferences" instead, you're using an older Android version. Try [these steps for Android 8.1 and below](https://support.google.com/android/answer/9069335?hl=en#older_android_version&zippy=%2Cset-who-can-interrupt-you%2Cpick-which-interruptions-to-allow).
- Under "What can interrupt Do Not Disturb," tap **People**.
- Choose what to allow:
    - **Calls**:
        - Anyone, contacts, or starred contacts.
        - None.
        - Repeat callers. To let a call through if the same person calls twice in 15 minutes, turn on **Allow repeat callers**.
    - **Messages**:
        - Anyone, contacts, starred contacts, or priority conversations
        - None.
- We recommend the starred contacts option. To start a contact, go to your **Contacts**, select the Better Stack’s contact, and star them.
