# Linear & Better Stack integration

Better Stack monitors your services and pages the person on call when something breaks. The Linear integration turns incidents into Linear issues that follow the incident, and puts your on-call schedules on Linear triage responsibility so new issues go to whoever is on call.

## Create Linear issues from incidents

1. Go to **Integrations → [Exporting data](https://uptime.betterstack.com/team/0/integrations/exporting-data ";_blank")** and click **Add** on the **Linear** card under **Project management**.
2. Pick the Linear workspace on Linear's consent screen and authorize Better Stack.
3. Under **Issue properties**, select the Linear **Team** and the **Assignee**, **Labels**, **Priority**, **Status** and **Project** for new issues.
4. Turn on **Create issue every time an incident occurs**.
5. Click **Save changes**.

[info]
#### Want issues for some incidents only?
Leave **Create issue every time an incident occurs** off and add a step with **Linear integrations** to an [escalation policy](https://uptime.betterstack.com/team/0/policies ";_blank") instead. The issue is created when the incident reaches that step.
[/info]

You can also create an issue by hand. Open the incident, click **Create Linear** in the header and create the issue, or switch to **Link to existing** to attach one that already exists.

### How the issue follows the incident

Better Stack creates the issue with the incident's details and a link back to the incident, then comments on it whenever the incident is acknowledged, escalated, resolved or reopened, when someone takes the lead or posts a comment, and when a Zoom or Google Meet call starts.

Turn on **Update issue status when incident is resolved** in the integration settings to also move the issue to a status you pick when the incident resolves, and back to its original status if the incident reopens.

The integration is one way. Changes to the issue in Linear don't change the incident.

## Put your on-call schedules on Linear triage responsibility

Linear can notify or assign new triage issues to the person on call. Better Stack shares your on-call schedules with Linear so a Linear team can use one as its triage responsibility schedule.

#### Requires Linear's Business plan
Triage responsibility schedules are available on Linear's Business plan.

### Share your schedules with Linear

1. Go to **Integrations → [Exporting data](https://uptime.betterstack.com/team/0/integrations/exporting-data ";_blank")** and click **Add** on the **Linear triage responsibility** card.
2. Pick the Linear workspace on Linear's consent screen and authorize Better Stack.
3. Under **Override associated users**, check that each Better Stack user is matched to the right Linear user. Users are matched by e-mail, so map only those whose e-mail differs.
4. Click **Save changes**.

Every on-call schedule of your team now appears in Linear as a time schedule named after the team and the schedule, with rotations and overrides included.

### Use a schedule in Linear

1. In Linear, go to **Settings → Teams**, open the team and select **Triage**.
2. Turn on **Enable triage for this team**.
3. Under **Triage responsibility**, set **Action** to **Notify** or **Assign**.
4. Click **Use schedule** and pick the Better Stack schedule.

From now on, every issue that enters the team's Triage goes to whoever is on call, including the issues Better Stack creates from incidents.

### Send incident issues to the person on call

In the Linear integration's **Issue properties**, set **Team** to the Linear team that uses your Better Stack schedule for triage responsibility, and leave **Status** empty. New incident issues then land in that team's Triage, and Linear assigns or notifies whoever is on call.
