# Mark metrics as spam

Block metrics you don't need from being ingested, so you won't be billed for them.

## Mark a metric as spam

1. Go to **Metrics** → [Schema](https://telemetry.betterstack.com/team/0/schema ";_blank") and select your sources.
2. Hover over the metric, open its **⋯** menu, and select **Mark as spam**.
3. Click **Mark as spam** to confirm.

New data for the metric isn't ingested or billed, and data you already have is kept. We add the metric to the **Metrics marked as spam** list of every selected source that has it, and the success message links to each list. If the metric is defined in **Extract metrics**, that definition is removed too.

## Edit metrics marked as spam

Every source that receives metrics has its own list.

1. Go to [Sources](https://telemetry.betterstack.com/team/0/sources ";_blank") → your source or collector → **Configure** → **Advanced settings**.
2. Under **Metrics marked as spam**, add the exact metric names, one per line, or remove a name to ingest that metric again.
3. Click **Save changes**, or **Save & apply** on a collector.

To bring back a metric that came from **Extract metrics**, also create it there again.

## Remove a label

On the Schema page, labels from **Extract metrics** have **Remove label** in their **⋯** menu instead of **Mark as spam**. Removing a label takes its definition out of **Extract metrics** on the selected sources, so we stop extracting it, and existing data is kept. Nothing is added to **Metrics marked as spam**, so to undo it, create the label again in **Extract metrics**.
