# Welcome to AI SRE

AI SRE is **Better Stack's chat‑based site reliability assistant**. It can read your telemetry data, look at incidents, build dashboards, and even write code to fix errors, all within a single conversation.

Start a new chat in **AI SRE** → [New chat](https://chat.betterstack.com/team/0/chats/new ";_blank").

The agent has **access to your team's logs, metrics, traces, incidents, and on‑call schedules**. It can also connect to third‑party tools like [GitHub](https://betterstack.com/docs/ai-sre/integrations/github/), [Sentry](https://betterstack.com/docs/ai-sre/integrations/sentry/), and [Datadog](https://betterstack.com/docs/ai-sre/integrations/datadog/) to get a complete picture during an investigation.

## Start your first conversation

There are several ways to start an AI SRE conversation:

-   In [AI SRE](https://chat.betterstack.com/team/0/chats/new ";_blank"), start a new chat from the sidebar.
-   In [Errors](https://errors.betterstack.com/team/0/errors ";_blank"), click **Create pull request** on an error to have AI SRE create a GitHub pull request with a fix. With an application linked to a GitLab repository, the button reads **Create merge request**.
-   In a [Slack](https://betterstack.com/docs/uptime/sending-alerts-to-slack/) or [Microsoft Teams](https://betterstack.com/docs/uptime/microsoft-teams/) thread, mention the `@Better Stack` bot to quickly start a chat.  
    To enable this in Slack, go to **Incidents** -> [Integrations](https://incidents.betterstack.com/team/0/integrations ";_blank") -> **Configure** and check the **Start an AI SRE conversation when Better Stack is tagged** option.
-   Or **continue an existing conversation** from your chat history.

## Bring context into the chat

Drop any of your incidents, errors, applications, sources, or Slack threads directly in the chat. Use the `@` mention to reference Better Stack resources in the message box.

Pasting long text, like a JSON export, or dropping a file will upload it as an attachment.

## Chat history

Conversations resume where you left off. The agent retains all context, so you can close the tab and continue your investigation later without starting over.
