# Grafana Cloud vs LogicMonitor: A Complete Comparison for 2026

Try adding a core network switch to each platform and you learn most of what separates them. In Grafana Cloud, you deploy an SNMP exporter or configure Grafana Alloy to scrape it, pick the right MIB modules, map the metrics you care about, and then build or import a dashboard. It works, and plenty of teams do it, but every new device type is a small project. In LogicMonitor, the Collector discovers the switch, recognizes the vendor and model, and applies one of more than 3,000 prebuilt DataSource templates, so interface traffic, errors, CPU, and temperature show up without anyone writing a config.

Now reverse it. Trace a request across twenty microservices, follow it into a slow span, and jump to the logs and profile behind it. Grafana does that natively with Tempo, Loki, and Pyroscope. LogicMonitor was not built for it.

[ad-logs]

That split defines the comparison. **Grafana Cloud is a build-it-yourself observability platform with open-source backends and the best dashboards available**, strongest where your infrastructure speaks Prometheus and OpenTelemetry. LogicMonitor comes from the other side of IT. **LogicMonitor is a hybrid infrastructure monitoring platform with templates already written**, strongest across data centers, networks, and mixed estates, with Edwin AI for alert correlation and Catchpoint for internet performance.

This comparison covers data collection, hybrid and network infrastructure, cloud-native and Kubernetes, APM, logs, internet and digital experience, dashboards, AI, alerting and incidents, multi-tenancy, pricing, and enterprise needs.

## How data gets in

The collection model shapes everything else, so it comes first.

Grafana Cloud collects through Grafana Alloy, its OpenTelemetry-compatible collector, plus Prometheus exporters and a catalog of integrations. Alloy is flexible: it can scrape, receive, transform, and route metrics, logs, traces, and profiles. That flexibility means you decide what to collect and how, which suits teams that already think in terms of exporters and pipelines. Teams moving over from a self-run Prometheus setup will find the relationship between the two laid out in our [Prometheus vs Grafana comparison](https://betterstack.com/community/comparisons/prometheus-vs-grafana/).

LogicMonitor's Collector is a lightweight service you install inside each network or site. It discovers what it can reach and polls devices and systems using SNMP, WMI, JMX, and REST APIs, mostly without agents on the monitored resources. DataSources decide what to collect from each type of device and apply automatically when a match is found. The result is broad coverage of a mixed estate with little configuration, at the cost of less control over the pipeline.

Grafana hands you a flexible collector to configure, and LogicMonitor hands you templates for devices but little for application telemetry. Better Stack connects to the sources you already run, from OpenTelemetry and Vector to cloud integrations and an eBPF collector that finds services on its own, and stores everything in one warehouse.

## Hybrid and network infrastructure

This is LogicMonitor's home ground.

LogicMonitor monitors switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, storage arrays, hypervisors, SD-WAN appliances, wireless controllers, and servers alongside cloud resources, with topology maps that show how they connect. Configuration monitoring tracks changes to device configs, and dependency mapping on Advanced and above helps suppress downstream alerts when an upstream device fails. For a NOC responsible for hundreds of device types across many sites, that breadth is the main reason to buy it.

Grafana Cloud can monitor the same devices, but you build it. The SNMP exporter, Alloy, and community dashboards cover common hardware, and teams with Prometheus experience often do this well. What you do not get is a vendor maintaining templates for every model, or topology and configuration tracking out of the box.

| Hybrid and network | Grafana Cloud | LogicMonitor |
|---|---|---|
| **Network device monitoring** | Build with SNMP exporter | ✔, prebuilt |
| **Storage and hypervisors** | Via exporters | ✔, prebuilt |
| **Topology mapping** | Limited | ✔ |
| **Configuration change tracking** | ✘ | ✔ |
| **Dependency-aware alerting** | Via alert rules | ✔, Advanced and above |

## Cloud-native and Kubernetes

Here the advantage flips.

Mimir, the metrics store behind Grafana Cloud, accepts Prometheus remote write and holds Pro metrics for over a year. Kubernetes Monitoring covers clusters, nodes, workloads, and costs, and Application Observability builds service views from OpenTelemetry data. Teams already running Prometheus can point remote write at Grafana Cloud and keep every query.

![Screenshot of Grafana Cloud Application Observability service dashboard](https://imagedelivery.net/xZXo0QFi-1_4Zimer-T0XQ/cd774ad5-aecb-44c8-54f7-d8728fb90400/md2x =3360x1878)

LogicMonitor monitors Kubernetes clusters, containers, and cloud services across AWS, Azure, and GCP, and counts PaaS resources fractionally in its Hybrid Unit pricing. It works well for keeping cloud resources in the same view as the data center. It is less suited to teams whose daily work is PromQL, high-cardinality labels, and service-level debugging.

| Cloud-native | Grafana Cloud | LogicMonitor |
|---|---|---|
| **Prometheus compatibility** | ✔, native | Via integration |
| **Kubernetes depth** | ✔, extensive | ✔, solid coverage |
| **Cloud provider monitoring** | ✔ | ✔ |
| **Service-level views** | ✔, Application Observability | Dynamic service insights on Advanced |

## APM and tracing

Grafana Cloud covers APM fully. LogicMonitor does not try to compete here.

Grafana stores traces in Tempo on low-cost object storage, lets you query span shape and attributes with TraceQL, and adds code-level profiles through Pyroscope. Traces link to logs in Loki and metrics in Mimir.

LogicMonitor provides service-level visibility and can ingest OpenTelemetry data, but it does not offer the code-level tracing, flame graphs, and profiling that application teams expect from APM. Organizations that standardize on LogicMonitor for infrastructure often pair it with a separate APM tool. Our [Dynatrace vs LogicMonitor comparison](https://betterstack.com/community/comparisons/dynatrace-vs-logicmonitor/) looks at that gap against one of the strongest APM vendors.

| APM | Grafana Cloud | LogicMonitor |
|---|---|---|
| **Distributed tracing** | ✔, Tempo | Limited |
| **Trace search** | ✔, TraceQL | ✘ |
| **Continuous profiling** | ✔, Pyroscope | ✘ |
| **Service maps** | ✔ | Topology-based |

### Traces for the services LogicMonitor cannot see inside

<iframe class="aspect-video h-auto" width="100%" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7tQ7haFmSXI" title="Explore Traces | Better Stack" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

LogicMonitor stops at the service boundary, and Grafana splits traces, logs, and profiles across separate backends. Better Stack records traces next to logs and metrics in one store, with eBPF-based capture that needs no code changes, so a slow request leads straight to the span and log line behind it.

**Infrastructure health tells you something is wrong, and a trace tells you where.** [Explore Better Stack tracing](https://betterstack.com/tracing).

## Logs

Both include logs, aimed at different sources.

Loki indexes labels rather than full content and stores logs compressed in object storage, which keeps high volumes cheap. It is well suited to application and Kubernetes logs, queried with LogQL, at about $0.45 per GB beyond the 50 GB included each month.

![Screenshot of Grafana Loki Explore view with a LogQL query and log stream](https://imagedelivery.net/xZXo0QFi-1_4Zimer-T0XQ/91c23edd-94af-4963-409f-67599c3db600/lg1x =1920x1378)

LM Logs is built around infrastructure. It takes syslog from network devices, Windows event logs, cloud provider logs, and application logs, and Edwin AI looks for anomalies and ties log events to the related device or resource. Logs are included in every package rather than billed per GB, though retention and volume depend on your contract.

| **Best suited to** | Application and Kubernetes logs | Device, OS, and infrastructure logs |
| **Query language** | LogQL | LM Logs search |
| **AI on logs** | Grafana Assistant | Edwin AI anomaly detection |
| **Pricing** | About $0.45 per GB | Included in packages |

## Internet performance and digital experience

LogicMonitor's acquisition of Catchpoint in December 2025 gave it something few infrastructure tools have.

Catchpoint runs tests from more than 2,000 vantage points worldwide, covering DNS resolution, CDN behavior, BGP routing, ISP performance, SaaS availability, and API response. That data feeds Edwin AI, so an alert can point to a degraded CDN edge in one region instead of a threshold on a server you control. Catchpoint has been recognized as a Leader in Gartner's Digital Experience Monitoring evaluation.

Grafana Cloud covers the application side with Frontend Observability for web vitals, browser errors, and sessions, Synthetic Monitoring for uptime and API checks, and k6 for load testing. It does not offer network-layer internet analysis like BGP or ISP tracing.

### Uptime checks that open incidents on their own

<iframe class="aspect-video h-auto" width="100%" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YUnoLpCy1qQ" title="Monitors Overview | Better Stack" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

LogicMonitor's Catchpoint data is deep but feeds an ITOps workflow, and Grafana's synthetics need separate alert rules and IRM to page anyone. Better Stack's uptime, API, and heartbeat monitors confirm failures from several regions, open an incident, page the on-call engineer, and update the status page in one flow.

**A failed check should start the response, not just add a red dot to a map.** [See Better Stack uptime monitoring](https://betterstack.com/uptime).

## Dashboards

Grafana is the reference point. LogicMonitor's dashboards are built for operations.

Few tools match Grafana's range of panels, variables, transformations, and data sources on one screen, and its community library covers most integrations. LogicMonitor dashboards focus on resource health, alert status, topology, and capacity, with widgets suited to NOC walls and service-level summaries for IT leadership. They are effective for those uses but far less flexible for custom analysis.

![Screenshot of a Grafana Cloud dashboard](https://imagedelivery.net/xZXo0QFi-1_4Zimer-T0XQ/d302f406-4172-48c6-afa7-7101b1fe1400/orig =2870x1560)

| **Flexibility** | Extensive | ITOps-focused widgets |
| **External data sources** | Dozens | Mainly its own data |
| **NOC and executive views** | Build your own | ✔, built in |
| **Templates** | Community library | Prebuilt with DataSources |

## AI and MCP

Both lean on AI, for different jobs.

Edwin AI is built for alert volume. It groups related alerts into one notification with topology context, and LogicMonitor cites up to 90% noise reduction and a Forrester study showing 313% ROI. AI Investigations, updated in April 2026, pulls in logs, metrics, ITSM records, knowledge bases, and chat threads, and on the Signature plan Edwin AI can carry out remediation actions for known issues. Its ServiceNow integration is two-way. LogicMonitor's MCP server is in beta. We compare Edwin AI with our own agent in [Better Stack AI SRE vs Edwin AI](https://betterstack.com/community/comparisons/better-stack-ai-sre-vs-edwin-ai/).

![Screenshot of LogicMonitor Edwin AI investigation with correlated alerts and root cause analysis](https://imagedelivery.net/xZXo0QFi-1_4Zimer-T0XQ/a476719c-6375-4855-cd3f-75a31170e000/orig =2330x1400)

On the Grafana side, Assistant turns plain-language questions into queries and dashboards and can work through a longer investigation, while Sift runs its own diagnostic checks as soon as an incident is declared. AI tools outside Grafana can reach its data through an open-source MCP server.

![Screenshot of Grafana Assistant](https://imagedelivery.net/xZXo0QFi-1_4Zimer-T0XQ/3e081e66-6d10-4ad0-326c-a1f3edde7100/public =1920x1080)

## Alerting and incidents

LogicMonitor routes alerts into ITSM. Grafana runs the response itself.

LogicMonitor's alerting supports thresholds, dynamic thresholds and anomaly detection on Advanced and above, escalation chains, and notifications by email and SMS, with tight ServiceNow routing and integrations for PagerDuty and Opsgenie. It does not include on-call rotations or incident management in the engineering sense.

![Screenshot of LogicMonitor alert management with correlated alert groups and routing configuration](https://imagedelivery.net/xZXo0QFi-1_4Zimer-T0XQ/ea630cbb-e3db-4520-ddad-5b43eda25500/public =2560x1414)

Grafana's answer is IRM, which handles rotations, escalation, call and text paging, and incident workflows started from a panel, free for three active users and $20 each beyond that.

![Screenshot of Grafana Cloud IRM homepage with alert groups and incidents](https://imagedelivery.net/xZXo0QFi-1_4Zimer-T0XQ/603f728e-b279-4af2-290e-79f307bdea00/md2x =3062x2051)

LogicMonitor routes alerts to ServiceNow or another pager, and Grafana needs IRM licenses for rotations. Better Stack's escalation flows branch on time, severity, and alert metadata, come with unlimited calls and texts for $29 per responder, and update status pages from the same incident.

**The right escalation depends on what failed and when, so the rules should know both.** [Explore Better Stack escalations](https://betterstack.com/incident-management).
[/summary]

## Multi-tenancy and MSPs

LogicMonitor was designed with managed service providers in mind. Its portal supports multiple client environments with separate dashboards, alert routing, and access controls from one account, and per-site Collectors fit networks you do not own. Grafana Cloud can serve multiple customers through separate stacks or organizations, but the workflow is assembled rather than built in. If you run monitoring for clients, this difference can outweigh everything else in this comparison.

## Pricing

The pricing models count completely different things.

### Grafana Cloud

Grafana Cloud's Pro plan has a $19 monthly platform fee. After the free allowances of 10,000 series, 50 GB per other signal, and 3 users, metrics cost $6.50 per 1,000 series, logs and traces about $0.45 per GB, extra users $8 each, and extra IRM users $20 each.

### LogicMonitor

LogicMonitor bills per Hybrid Unit on annual terms. One unit covers one monitored device or cloud instance, five wireless access points, or seven PaaS resources. Starting list prices are $16 per unit per month for Essentials, $27 for Advanced, and $53 for Signature with Edwin AI, with final pricing by quote. A 15-day trial is available, and there is no free tier.

### A 200-resource example

Picture 200 hosts and network devices generating about 100,000 active series and 300 GB of logs each month, looked after by 15 engineers.

| Monthly cost | Grafana Cloud Pro | LogicMonitor Essentials | LogicMonitor Signature |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Platform or base** | $19 | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| **Monitored resources** | 90,000 billable series, about $585 | 200 units at $16, $3,200 | 200 units at $53, $10,600 |
| **Logs** | 250 GB billable, about $113 | Included | Included |
| **Users** | 12 beyond 3, $96 | Not charged per user | Not charged per user |
| **AI** | 3 Assistant users included | ✘ | Edwin AI included |
| **Approximate total** | About $810 | About $3,200 | About $10,600 |

Grafana Cloud's list price is far lower, but the totals hide labor. LogicMonitor's price includes templates, topology, discovery, and configuration tracking that a Grafana team would build and maintain. For a cloud-native estate that is mostly Kubernetes and services, Grafana's lower price is real. For a hybrid estate full of network hardware, the engineering time to replicate LogicMonitor's coverage can close much of the gap.

## Enterprise and compliance

Grafana Cloud is SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliant, offers FedRAMP and PCI DSS options, and can be self-hosted from open source. LogicMonitor is SOC 2 Type II certified and sells into regulated enterprises, and it has said GovCloud availability is coming. Check current attestations with each vendor before procurement. For a broader view of LogicMonitor against a full-stack observability platform, see our [New Relic vs LogicMonitor comparison](https://betterstack.com/community/comparisons/new-relic-vs-logicmonitor/).

| Enterprise | Grafana Cloud | LogicMonitor |
|---|---|---|
| **SOC 2 Type II** | ✔ | ✔ |
| **FedRAMP** | ✔ | Confirm with LogicMonitor |
| **Self-hosting** | ✔, open-source stack | ✘ |
| **Native MSP multi-tenancy** | ✘ | ✔ |
| **ServiceNow CMDB integration** | Via integrations | ✔, Signature |

## Which one fits your team

Choose Grafana Cloud when your estate is mostly cloud-native, your teams already work in Prometheus and OpenTelemetry, and you want APM, flexible dashboards, and paging together. Platform and SRE groups who are comfortable building their own monitoring and want an open-source exit path will get the most from it.

Choose LogicMonitor when you are responsible for a hybrid estate with lots of network hardware, servers, and storage across many sites, and you want coverage without writing collectors. It suits ITOps and NOC teams, MSPs, and organizations that run ServiceNow. Plan for a separate APM tool and a pager if your engineering teams need them.

## Final thoughts

These two platforms rarely compete for the same buyer. **Grafana Cloud gives you the parts and lets you build**, while LogicMonitor gives you the templates already built and asks you to work within them.

So the decision comes down to what fills your estate. If it is mostly services and containers, Grafana's flexibility is worth far more than LogicMonitor's device library. **If it is mostly switches, storage, and servers in rooms you can walk into, LogicMonitor is the cheaper option once you count the engineering hours.**

LogicMonitor's MCP server is still in beta, and Grafana's spans dashboards across several backends. Better Stack's MCP server is generally available and covers logs, metrics, traces, on-call, and incidents together, so Claude or Cursor can query logs with SQL, check who is on call, acknowledge an incident, and build a chart in one conversation.
